Loverboy, Kevin Eubanks bring shows to park

DOWNTOWN AKRON — Lock 3 Park is heading into its sixth season with an earlier start and a schedule packed with concerts and festivals, many of which offer free admission.

The outdoor park, located between the Akron Civic Theatre and the O’Neil’s building on South Main Street, features a seasonal covered stage that hosts dozens of acts during the summer months. This year the stage will host a range of performers, from 1980s hitmakers Loverboy to local favorites like the Akron Symphony Pops Orchestra with Helen Welch.

The music begins Memorial Day weekend. Free Friday night concerts, part of the Rock the Lock series, will begin May 23. Saturday night concerts and other special events, which will begin in late June, often require a $5 entrance fee.

As in previous years, the free Friday night shows will feature a mix of regional acts and tribute bands. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and shows begin at 7....

Hello, all you Northeast Ohioans. Have you considered coming to downtown Akron for something other than a restaurant?

It's not particularly dangerous, and yes, there are other things to do besides visiting Canal Park, the Civic Theatre or one of the many eateries before going right back home.

City officials are serious about convincing everyone that the downtown area of the ''AK-Rowdy'' is a cool place to hang out and spend some time and, more important, some money.

Lock 3 Park was created to be a people magnet. And it's been serving its purpose. Attendance has been growing and last year it broke all previous attendance records and welcomed its 100,000th visitor.

Lock 3 Park Twitter Mention (Blogger)

Weird Twitter Follower
17 Apr 2008 by Howard Hill

Yes, I know I need to do a lengthier update, but I thought I would share this.

I was scanning my email for anything important and killing some spam when I saw I have a new follower on Twitter, Lock3Live. I thought this odd, but it turns out to be the Lock 3 park/outdoor stage in downtown Akron. A very cool use of Twitter!

I'm sure they sent invites out to people living in/around Akron, but I found a few other interesting people they follow, such as the Cleveland Plain Dealer. If the Plain Dealer also follows Lock3Live then late changes to events could be quickly put up on their site, even if it never hits the newspaper. I like it.
